Wealth means nothing without helping others – Ibrahim Mahama

Business magnate Ibrahim Mahama has urged Ghanaians to set aside political and personal differences and work together to build a better nation, stressing that wealth is meaningless without compassion.

In an informal conversation with entertainers and bloggers on Saturday, the brother of President John Dramani Mahama shared candid thoughts on unity and the fleeting nature of life.

“If you live in a country where help is needed and you don’t help, you’re a stupid man,” he said bluntly. “You can’t be the richest man in the cemetery. You’ll die and leave it one day.”

Mr. Mahama, founder of Engineers and Planners, emphasized that political divisions should never prevent Ghanaians from supporting one another.

“Let’s try and work together and put our differences away,” he said. “It doesn’t matter — we’ll always have one president, one MP. People have come and gone, and people will continue to come and go.”

He called on the media and creative industry to play a unifying role.

“You guys [in the media] do your best too. Entertain us. Once we relax one day, we will come and join you,” he remarked, drawing laughter from the group.

Mr. Mahama also encouraged Ghanaians to nurture young talent rather than destroy it for political reasons.

“When we see a talent, we want to kill it — ‘Oh, this person is not NDC, this one is not NPP,’” he lamented. “With togetherness, we can do so much.”

Known widely for his philanthropy, Ibrahim Mahama has financed surgeries for people in need and consistently supports brilliant but needy students across Ghana.

His charitable efforts, often conducted quietly, have earned him admiration from many Ghanaians.

Reflecting on Ghana’s potential, he noted, “We have a fantastic country. My friends from Nigeria say they live in organized chaos, but when they come to Ghana, they feel relaxed. We own the country, but we don’t see its qualities.”
