We’re committed to making trade deals work – Ghana, UK deepen Bilateral Economic Ties

Ghana and the United Kingdom are reaffirming their commitment to stronger trade cooperation under the Ghana–UK Trade Partnership Agreement (TPA), following high-level talks in Accra.
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry says the discussions with a visiting UK delegation identified three key priority areas for implementation: revitalising the Ghana–UK Business Council, advancing regulatory harmonisation, and finalising rules of origin to clarify trade conditions.

Regulatory harmonisation, in particular, is expected to make product certification and cross-border commerce more efficient. Institutions such as the Ghana Standards Authority, the Food and Drugs Authority, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority will be central to this effort, engaging directly with their UK counterparts under proposed MoUs.
Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Noah Tumfo, expressed confidence in the agreement’s potential, citing its duty- and quota-free access to the UK market as a “game-changer” for Ghanaian exports.
“Our goal is to use trade as a key driver of Ghana’s industrial transformation,” Mr. Tumfo said.
UK Trade Advisor Ms. Tess Phjppen described the TPA as a vital tool for strengthening ties and ensuring inclusive economic growth. She reaffirmed the UK’s support and welcomed Ghana’s active push toward implementation.
The two countries have already engaged with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Business and Trade. The incoming UK High Commissioner to Ghana, expected in September, has been fully briefed on the progress.
Officials say the renewed collaboration signals a firm resolve to ensure the TPA delivers tangible benefits—streamlining trade processes, improving access to markets, and supporting long-term investment between both nations.
