Ken Agyapong’s Campaign team pushes for disciplinary action against Wontumi, Abronye

The team says their comments undermine party unity and the constitution.
Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team is pushing for disciplinary action against Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Wontumi, and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly called Abronye. The call follows controversial remarks they made about the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries.
The campaign insists that the conduct of Wontumi and Abronye violates the party’s constitution and undermines unity ahead of the primaries, stressing that decisive disciplinary action is necessary.
Spokesperson for the campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng, speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, September 28, 2025, described the statements as reckless and divisive.
“We’re calling for a disciplinary process… if you are found culpable, the organ of the party that is clothed with the power to administer disciplinary procedures will proffer the proper sanctions or punishment to you. We’re saying that until the party takes decisive action, that action is going to weaken the party and dent the image of the party out there,” he said.
He further argued that distancing the party from the comments alone is insufficient.
“Any right-thinking member of our party and extension any right-thinking Ghanaian will find these comments unfortunate, it is divisive and designed to break the party. It was unfortunate for those comments to have been made. It’s in clear violation of the party’s constitution. It undermines the credible electoral process we’re all taking as a party. It abhors principles of unity. It’s so bad, it’s so condemnable; they were reckless.
“The party distancing itself alone is not enough. They should be seen publicly to have condemned those reckless, unfortunate statements that were made by these two individuals. They should summon them to face disciplinary action. It is a clear act of violation of the party’s constitution and misconduct. It is our view that distancing alone does not cure the mischief,” he added.
The NPP had earlier issued a statement disassociating itself from the controversial remarks, but the Agyapong campaign maintains that stronger measures must follow.
