2026 World Cup: Ghana secures broadcast rights

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that the country has successfully secured broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring nationwide live coverage of the tournament.
Speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday, May 12, where GCB Bank donated GH¢5 million to the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign, Mr Adams said the support from both public and private sectors was crucial in finalising the broadcast deal.
He explained that the arrangement was made possible through government intervention combined with financial contributions from corporate institutions and a nationwide fundraising initiative designed to support the Black Stars’ preparations.
He noted that selected television stations will be given rights to transmit matches live, allowing Ghanaians across the country to follow the tournament in real time.
“The government alone could not have carried this responsibility, but with the support of our partners and stakeholders, we have been able to secure the broadcast rights for the World Cup,” he said.
“This is good news for every football fan in Ghana. It means everyone, regardless of location, will have access to live matches,” he added.
Mr Adams further explained that the fundraising drive was introduced to strengthen the Black Stars’ preparations ahead of the global tournament and to encourage broader participation from businesses and individuals.
“We want a shared responsibility approach. Football is for all of us, and supporting the national team should also be a collective effort,” he stated.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with Ghana placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
Officials say the development is expected to boost national excitement and ensure widespread access to one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.
