Liverpool Football Club have appointed Andoni Iraola as their new head coach on a two-year contract following the departure of Arne Slot.
The Premier League side confirmed the appointment on Thursday after completing negotiations with the former Bournemouth manager, who has earned widespread recognition in English football for his progressive and high-intensity style of play.
Iraola’s arrival comes shortly after Liverpool parted ways with Slot at the end of a difficult campaign.
Speaking after his appointment, Iraola said he was honoured to take on the role.
“I am very proud to become the head coach of Liverpool Football Club,” he said. “This is one of the biggest clubs in world football, with incredible supporters and a clear ambition to compete for trophies. I am excited to begin work.”
Club officials said the decision was driven by Iraola’s tactical identity, leadership qualities and proven ability to improve team performance in the Premier League. He is expected to take immediate charge of preparations ahead of the new season.
Liverpool’s management also welcomed the appointment, highlighting the Spaniard’s coaching philosophy and track record.
“Andoni is a coach we have admired for some time,” the club said in a statement. “His energy, tactical approach and experience in the Premier League make him the right fit for the direction we want to take this team.”
Liverpool’s management says they believe Iraola can build a team capable of challenging for major trophies while maintaining the attacking style supporters have come to expect.
“We believe Andoni has the qualities required to lead this team forward,” the club said. “His achievements speak for themselves, and we look forward to supporting him as he begins his work.”
With pre-season approaching, attention will now shift to how quickly Iraola can adapt to his new squad and implement his ideas.
Expectations remain high, with supporters hopeful the new appointment will restore Liverpool’s challenge for domestic and European honours.
