GoldBod: Angel Broadcasting Network apologizes for unprofessional, unethical conduct

Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) has issued a sincere apology to the Government of Ghana, officials of the Gold Board, and the general public for broadcasting incorrect information about the Gold Board’s mandate and activities.
The network’s apology comes after one of its news anchors falsely claimed on air that the Gold Board Bill criminalizes the wearing of gold ornaments by Chiefs and Queen Mothers.
In a statement, ABN acknowledged that its report was inaccurate and may have misrepresented the work of the Gold Board. “We deeply regret the misinformation this report has caused,” the statement read. “As a responsible media house, ABN is committed to upholding the highest standards of journalism, including accuracy and fairness”.
This incident highlights the importance of ethical conduct in journalism. Unprofessional and unethical conduct can have serious consequences, including the spread of misinformation and harm to individuals or organizations. As the Community Industry Group notes, unethical conduct can include situations such as gossiping about clients or behaving in a way that puts clients at risk.
In the context of journalism, unprofessional and unethical conduct can take many forms, including failing to verify information, plagiarism, and biased reporting. As Quizlet notes, making or filing a false report is a clear example of unethical conduct.
ABN’s apology is a step in the right direction, demonstrating the network’s commitment to accuracy and fairness. However, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding ethical standards in journalism.
