Kufuor urges NPP to embrace unity over physical structures

The former president says forgiveness and reconciliation are vital for true governance.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to place unity, forgiveness, and sincerity above physical infrastructure in their service to the party. He noted that true governance is not defined by buildings but by the goodwill and harmony among party members.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly built Bantama Constituency office of the NPP on Friday, September 19, 2025, the former President stressed that structures lose value if members lack genuine intentions. “The building is nice, but if the thoughts inside are not good, then what is the use? Things will never work,” he cautioned.

He further reminded party members that political parties exist to serve government and the people, not just themselves. “What is the essence of a party? It is because of the government that we have parties. So, unity is important. If you have people you can speak to and help change their minds, do so,” the former president advised.

He emphasised that reconciliation and teamwork were critical for sustaining the NPP’s relevance and ensuring that governance is people-centered.

Meanwhile, the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a demonstration next Tuesday to protest the government’s handling of galamsey, political dismissals, and unfulfilled promises.

NPP National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, told journalists that the protest would highlight the government’s failures.

“Galamsey has swallowed this government and it’s even belching,” he declared.

According to him, the administration’s record has been marked by deliberate victimization and targeted actions against its own citizens.

“When this government came into office and began on bad faith targeting young people who had been duly appointed and revoked the appointment, we said it, that we are in for a rough ride,” he said.

Mr. Mustapha further claimed that government decisions were carefully engineered to weaken institutions and intimidate opponents.
