There’s more than 80% chance for NDC to win 2028 election – Mussa Dankwah

Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has stated that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is strongly positioned to win the 2028 general election.

In a discussion on
Prime Insight on Joy Prime, which was closely followed by Today.com.gh, Mussa Dankwah said only a major setback could cost the NDC victory. He stressed that the party’s chances are solid, citing recent polling numbers as evidence. “It will take a big mess from the NDC to lose the election. I mean, there’s more than 80% chance for NDC to win the election,” he declared.

He explained that a July poll placed Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu slightly ahead in the NDC’s flagbearer race with 27%, followed closely by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah at 26%. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson polled 22%, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah 11%, and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa 8%.

According to him, it was unusual that some of the best-performing candidates had not openly declared their intentions. “It’s quite strange. If you look at the people who are probably doing very well, they are the ones who have not declared any public interest or shown any action that they want to contest,” he noted.

Mr. Dankwah described Dr. Ato Forson’s strong showing as “the surprising one,” pointing out that both he and Mr. Ablakwa “are getting very good numbers so far” despite not announcing their ambitions.

Touching on voter behaviour, he revealed that NDC supporters preferred the NPP to elect Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, while NPP supporters favoured the NDC to present Asiedu Nketiah or Haruna Iddrisu.

He dismissed the idea that historical voting trends would hold in 2028, stressing the decisive role of young voters. “We have a new brand of voters who have nothing to do with ideas. So people must be prepared to get a shock of their lives. The young ones will decide your vote below 35 years of age. It’s going to be largely driven by the youth,” he explained.

Mr. Dankwah emphasised that these younger voters were focused on practical results rather than tradition. “They don’t believe in those things, they look at tangible results, who can deliver what they want,” he added.
