Ablakwa to address Ghana’s foreign standing at Government Accountability Series tomorrow

The Government Accountability Series returns tomorrow with Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, set to outline Ghana’s international engagements and tackle pressing diplomatic issues.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The event will take place at the Jubilee House on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
Mr. Ablakwa’s appearance comes at a delicate time for the country, as fresh security concerns in the Northern Region have triggered migration flows across the border.
In Gbenyiri, violent clashes between local factions have displaced several residents. Tensions escalated in recent weeks over long-standing land and chieftaincy disputes, leading to attacks that forced many Ghanaians to flee into neighboring Côte d’Ivoire in search of safety.
The humanitarian strain on border communities and the potential regional security implications have become issues of national concern.
The Foreign Minister is expected to shed light on how Ghana is engaging with Ivorian authorities and regional bodies such as ECOWAS to ensure the safety of displaced citizens while also working toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Beyond regional instability, the minister will also face questions about Ghana’s evolving relationship with the United States.
President John Mahama disclosed last week during a press conference that Washington has made arrangements for deporting West African nationals without proper documentation to Ghana.
Mr. Ablakwa will in all likelihood provide details about the development.
Observers note that tomorrow’s session offers the Foreign Minister an opportunity to balance transparency with diplomacy, providing clarity on Ghana’s position in global affairs while addressing domestic anxieties.
The Government Accountability Series, designed to deepen public trust, has in recent months become a key platform for ministers to account directly to the people.
With issues of migration, security, and international partnerships dominating headlines, Mr. Ablakwa’s news conference will be watched closely.
