Police arrest man for inciting violence against journalists, public officials

The suspect was traced to a hideout near Kasoa Market.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested David Kwodwo Prah Afful, the man seen in a viral video inciting violence against public officials and government workers. His arrest followed days of sustained intelligence-led operations.
According to police, the suspect, who is popularly known online as Kwame Nkrumah the Second, was picked up at his hideout near Kasoa Market around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The arrest comes after the viral video drew widespread condemnation and sparked public concern about threats against public officials.
Police investigators revealed that Mr. Afful allegedly used his social media platform to issue threats against government officials, journalists, and civil servants, particularly those driving vehicles with official green number plates. In the same video, he also threatened to set markets ablaze and encouraged his followers to commit violent acts.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody. He is expected to be arraigned before the court on charges of issuing threats against public officials and inciting violence.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report similar threats to help safeguard national security.
However, Osman Masawudu says the alleged arrest of Sofo Azorka does not add up after the news broke that the vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sofo Azorka, has been arrested and granted bail.
The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Osman Masawudu, has cast doubt on the Ghana Police Service’s claim that Sofo Azorka has been arrested following the Akwatia by-election violence. Masawudu insists that the reports of arrest are inconsistent and appear politically motivated.
According to Masawudu, police investigators had initially assured him that the Second National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sofo Azorka, would be picked up in connection with the assault case at the Akwatia by-election. However, he said the feedback he later received from the Police raised serious doubts about whether the supposed arrest of Azorka actually took place.
The Ghana Police Service had earlier confirmed that Alhaji Sofo Azorka was taken into custody in Tamale on September 10, 2025. Police explained that he was granted bail after giving a caution statement and directed to report to the Eastern South Regional Command in Kyebi on September 16 for formal arraignment. The Police statement stressed that the suspect had been cautioned and released on bail.
