Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council mourns helicopter crash victims

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several high-ranking government and security officials, including two distinguished sons of the Ashanti Region. The accident, which occurred on August 6, 2025, has sent shockwaves across the country and plunged the region into mourning.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, August 7, and signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Council extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
“This national tragedy has brought profound grief to the Ashanti Region and the country as a whole,” the statement read. The Council particularly mourned the loss of Hon. Dr. Samuel Sarpong, a native of Juaben and former Ashanti Regional Minister and Mayor of Kumasi, and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a proud son of Obuasi and Deputy Director General of NADMO, whose legacy of humility, dedication, and public service had deeply impacted the region.
The ARCC also expressed appreciation to the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the security services, and the youth of the community who responded swiftly to retrieve and transport the remains of the victims to Accra. The Council praised their bravery and cooperation, which it described as a true reflection of the unity and duty that characterize the Ashanti Region.
In honour of the fallen, the Council has opened a Book of Condolence at its offices in Kumasi. Members of the public, dignitaries, and well-wishers are invited to sign the book and pay tribute to the departed.
The statement concluded with prayers for strength for the bereaved families, President John Dramani Mahama, and the people of Ghana. “May the Almighty God grant our fallen heroes eternal rest,” it stated.
