Ayariga releases GH₵1.5million to women in Bawku Central

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has directed the distribution of One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,500,000.00) to women in his constituency.
This forms part of efforts to cushion them against the impact of the ongoing conflict.
A total of 500 women are expected to benefit from the intervention, with each receiving GH₵3,000 to support their petty trading. The Municipal Chief Executive will oversee the disbursement in the coming days.
Announcing the initiative, Inusah Yussif, Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bawku Central, explained that the move was necessary to help women cope with the “debilitating consequences of the conflict,” which continues to disrupt livelihoods in the area.
This latest intervention forms part of the measures Mr. Ayariga has taken to lessen the suffering of his constituents, particularly women and children who have been the most affected by the unrest.
Bawku has for years been plagued by a protracted conflict, mainly linked to a chieftaincy dispute between the Kusasis and Mamprusis. The dispute dates back to colonial-era administrative decisions, deepened after independence. The Kusasi are recognized as the traditional rulers of Bawku a decision contested by the Mamprusi over the years.
The recurring clashes have left many dead, displaced families, and disrupted economic activity in what was once a vibrant trading hub. The latest cash distribution by the Bawku Central MP is expected to provide some relief as affected families continue to grapple with the consequences of the unrest.
Meanwhile, the matter has been placed before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose intervention is widely expected to lead to a conclusive and lasting solution to the decades-old conflict.
