Dzifa Gunu calls out former NEIP boss over dismissal claims

Ghana Digital Center CEO Dzifa Gunu has challenged Former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Chief Executive Kofi Ofosu Nkansah over his claim that the NPP never dismissed public workers.
In a public post, Gunu cited a February 12, 2019, letter from GCB Bank’s Human Resources Department as evidence that terminations occurred under the NPP government.
The letter, signed by I. Kojo Essel Jnr., informed a staff member of their immediate dismissal under Clause 29(a) of the Collective Agreement and instructed the return of company property, including laptops, ID cards, and manuals.
Copies were also sent to the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Information Officer.
“You have been very loud about claims that your government never dismissed workers, especially when criticizing others,” Gunu wrote. “But how do you explain this letter, which clearly shows someone being dismissed under your watch?”
He further accused Nkansah of selective honesty and urged him to admit the truth about his administration’s record. “The day you choose to cure your hypocrisy will be the day truth, and perhaps salvation, finally finds you,” he stated.
The post has since generated public debate, with some calling for greater accountability from government officials. Mr. Nkansah has yet to respond to the claims.
In Ghana, the issue of public sector dismissals following a change in government has long been a source of controversy. Successive administrations, both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have often faced accusations of removing civil and public servants perceived to be politically aligned with their predecessors.
In early 2025, after the NDC under President John Dramani Mahama assumed office, there were a number of directives and actions that led to massive revocations of appointments and staff dismissals.
The government justified these as efforts to undo what it considered irregular or non-compliant hires made by the previous NPP administration.
