Julius Debrah urges media to support 24-hour economy vision

The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, has urged the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) and the wider media fraternity to support the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
He described the initiative as a pathway to greater productivity, higher GDP and job creation.
He made the call on Thursday, October 2, 2025, during the 75th anniversary cake-cutting ceremony of the Daily Graphic in Accra.
Congratulating Graphic for its resilience over the decades, Mr Debrah encouraged the company to help shape public opinion in favour of the vision.
“The concept of a 24-hour economy makes sense. All it means is that we need to devise means and systems to increase productivity,” he said.
He stressed that widespread acceptance of the idea could transform Ghana’s economy, while urging the media to prepare citizens for the shift.
“Put politics aside and let us embrace the concept as a good thing. If we get it right, it will go a long way to help our nation,” he added.
Mr Debrah also responded to concerns raised by Graphic’s management about the lack of direct state support, assuring that he would convey the matter to the President.
He commended the Daily Graphic for chronicling Ghana’s journey from the independence struggle to the democratic present, describing the company as “a true Ghanaian institution whose legacy is tied to the very history of our nation.”
The Chief of Staff reaffirmed the government’s commitment to press freedom and pledged to work with stakeholders to protect journalists, build capacity, and support traditional media in adapting to the digital era.
“The story of Graphic at 75 holds lessons for all media houses in Ghana; credibility matters. Graphic has earned the trust of generations by sticking to the values of accuracy and integrity,” he said.
Mr Debrah concluded by congratulating the board, management, and staff of GCGL, praising their “75 years of truth and service to the nation,” and urging the media to remain reliable partners in development.
