Kennedy Agyapong’s wealth came from government deals – Kpebu alleges

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has cast doubt on claims by Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong that his wealth was built solely through personal effort.
According to him, the politician’s financial rise is strongly linked to state-awarded contracts rather than independent business ventures.
“Ken Agyapong keeps saying he is self-made, but the reality is different. It was government contracts that boosted him financially. He should show us how he actually made his money. The truth is, many Ghanaians would be wealthy too if they had access to those contracts,” Kpebu argued.
The lawyer insisted that wealth creation in Ghana is often tied to privileged access to state resources, noting that Agyapong’s claims overlook that fact. He further suggested that the MP’s comments about job creation cannot be separated from the support he has received from government deals.
Shifting focus to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership future, Kpebu urged the party to consider fresh faces who could better represent the next generation. He mentioned Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Boamah and Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as examples of promising options for leadership renewal.
“Dr. Bawumia has not delivered much. He is not a sellable candidate,” Kpebu said, adding that the Vice President’s record makes it difficult for him to convince voters. He suggested that if the party insists on keeping him, pairing him with a younger Muslim running mate might be the only way forward.
