Lumba’s one-week observation in limbo: Noise making ban holds – La Traditional Council

The La State Council has reminded the public not to organise or participate in funerals or funeral-related activities within its jurisdiction while the ongoing ban on noisemaking and funerals remains in effect.
The reminder comes as media reports circulate about plans for a one-week funeral celebration of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 28, the Council expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the nation at large over the loss of the iconic musician. It emphasised that the traditional ban, which started on Monday, August 11, 2025, is still in force and must be respected.
The directive covers the entire La Traditional Area, including the main township, Maalejor along the Dodowa road, and Ayi Mensah at the foot of the Aburi mountains. All forms of noisemaking, including funerals and funeral-related gatherings, are prohibited during this period. According to the Council, the sacred time marks when traditional authorities enter the spiritual realm, and any activity that could disrupt cultural and spiritual order is not allowed.
“All persons, families, groups, and organisers are asked to postpone, reschedule, or cancel any funeral activities within the La Traditional Area during this period,” the Council stated. It also warned that enforcement of the ban would be strict, as protecting the cultural heritage and sacred traditions of the La people remains a priority.
The ban is expected to continue until Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the family of the late musician announced that a one-week observance of his passing will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Accra, while the final funeral rites will be held in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The announcement was made by the family head during an interview with DL FM to inform the public and fans about the funeral arrangements following Daddy Lumba’s death.
The La State Council reiterated its sympathy to the family and assured them of support at the appropriate time once the ban is lifted.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, at Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness. He was 60 years old. His passing triggered nationwide mourning, with condolences from the public, as well as current and former presidents.

Simultaneous tributes were also held in other parts of Ghana and abroad in countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Netherlands.
