NDC releases guidelines for Tamale Central parliamentary primaries

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released guidelines for the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency in the Northern Region. The move follows the death of the area’s Member of Parliament and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Murtala Mohammed.
In a statement dated August 20, 2025, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said nomination forms for the primaries will be available at the Northern Regional Office of the party. Completed forms must also be submitted to the same office upon completion.
According to the guidelines, a certified copy of the delegates’ list will be provided to aspirants after the vetting process.
The nomination form fee has been pegged at GHC 5,000, while the filing fee stands at GHC 40,000. Payments are to be made in cash only into the party’s designated UMB Bank account at the Adabraka branch. Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are entitled to a 50 percent reduction on the approved filing fee.
The NDC also indicated that an official timetable for the primaries has been attached and urged aspirants and stakeholders to strictly comply with the timelines provided. The party further encouraged all aspirants to conduct their campaigns and related activities with decorum, unity and fairness.
The by-election follows the tragic death of Dr. Murtala Mohammed, who was among eight people killed in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Murtala Mohammed was laid to rest on August 10, 2025, at the Burma Camp Military Cemetery in Accra in a solemn ceremony attended by President John Mahama, government officials, party executives and hundreds of mourners.
