Sweden tears Tunisia apart in dominant win

Sweden produced a commanding display to defeat Tunisia 5-1 in their opening Group F match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Scandinavian side delivered an attacking masterclass on Sunday, June 14, at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico, showcasing impressive chemistry among their forward players under manager Graham Potter.
Sweden wasted little time in asserting their dominance, with Yasin Ayari opening the scoring in the seventh minute. The midfielder unleashed a powerful long-range strike that gave Tunisia little chance of mounting an early response.
The pressure continued to build, and Alexander Isak doubled Sweden’s advantage in the 30th minute after being set up by Viktor Gyökeres. The well-worked move highlighted the fluid understanding among Sweden’s attacking players.
Tunisia managed to reduce the deficit just before halftime when Omar Rekik rose highest to head home in the 43rd minute, giving his side renewed hope heading into the break.
However, Sweden regained complete control after the restart. Viktor Gyökeres added a third goal in the 59th minute after capitalising on a defensive mistake by Tunisia, punishing the North African side for their lapse in concentration.
Manager Graham Potter then turned to his bench, and substitute Mattias Svanberg made an immediate impact. The midfielder scored in the 84th minute shortly after entering the game to effectively put the contest beyond Tunisia’s reach.
Sweden were not done yet. Yasin Ayari completed his brace deep into stoppage time, finding the net again in the 96th minute to seal an emphatic victory and cap an outstanding individual performance.
The result underlined Sweden’s ambitions in Group F and provided an early statement of intent in their quest to progress to the knockout stages.
Tunisia struggled to cope with Sweden’s pace, movement and clinical finishing for much of the encounter despite their brief resurgence before halftime.
Following the opening round of matches, Sweden moved to the top of Group F and will head into their next fixture full of confidence. Meanwhile, Tunisia will be seeking a swift response to revive their hopes of advancing in the competition.
