W/R NDC lauds Mahama for appointing Opong-Fosu as GIPC Board Chairman

The Western Regional Branch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, for the appointment of Hon. Akwasi Opong-Fosu as Chairman of the Government Board of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).
In a press release signed by the Regional Communication Officer, Richard Kirk-Mensah, the NDC in the Western Region hailed the decision as a “well-deserved recognition” of Hon. Opong-Fosu’s years of committed service to both the party and the nation.
A founding member of the National Democratic Congress and a respected son of the Western Region, Hon. Akwasi Opong-Fosu brings a wealth of experience to the role. His public service career is rooted in the early days of Ghana’s Fourth Republic and the PNDC era, where he served as:
PNDC District Secretary
District Chief Executive (1982–2000)
Deputy Minister of Local Government (2000–2001) under President Jerry John Rawlings
Head of the Local Government Service under President John Evans Atta Mills
Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East
Minister for Local Government and Rural Development
Minister for Environment, Science and Technology during President Mahama’s first term
Most recently, before this new appointment, Hon. Opong-Fosu served as the Founder and President of Africa Growth Solutions Ltd, a platform dedicated to advancing developmental strategies across Africa.
The GIPC plays a critical role in shaping Ghana’s investment climate, both domestically and internationally. With Hon. Akwasi Opong-Fosu at the helm of its board, the Western Regional NDC believes the institution will benefit from his “visionary leadership and deep understanding of governance and development.
The release emphasized that President Mahama’s choice reflects not only political wisdom but also a commitment to inclusive and competent leadership, especially as Ghana looks to attract strategic investment for sustainable growth.
“The entire Western Region stands proud today,” the statement read. “This is not just a political appointment; it is a national endorsement of excellence, integrity, and public service.”
The NDC Regional Chapter reaffirmed its full support for Hon. Opong-Fosu and pledged to work collaboratively to ensure his success in the new role.
