NDC targets Mpraeso seat as lasting tribute to late Omane Boamah

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has declared the party’s determination to capture the Mpraeso parliamentary seat as a tribute to the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
Speaking to supporters in Mpraeso during his nationwide “Thank You Tour,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia, widely known as General Mosquito, praised the dedication of the grassroots, stressing their effort was crucial in the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections that brought John Dramani Mahama back to the presidency.
“We are in government today because of your hard work. Even though we could not win the parliamentary seat, I appreciate the significant votes we secured for both our parliamentary and presidential candidates,” he told the gathering.
The NDC Chairman underscored the importance of unity and perseverance as the party looks ahead to the 2028 elections.
He urged supporters to channel their commitment toward securing the Mpraeso seat, which he described as the best way to honour the memory of Dr. Omane Boamah.
“His contribution to our electoral success cannot be overlooked. We have lost an asset, and we must honour him by winning back his home constituency. Insha Allah, we will win the Mpraeso seat in his honour,” he pledged.
Dr. Omane Boamah, a former Minister of Defence and the NDC’s Director of Elections, hailed from Kwahu Obomeng.
He died in a helicopter crash while on national assignment to Obuasi, along with seven others, a tragedy that shook the party and the nation.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, also expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to improve on its performance in the region.
He said the NDC secured 47.8 percent of the votes in the Eastern Region during the 2024 elections and promised to intensify efforts to surpass that record.
“The regional and constituency executives are prepared to work harder and deliver victory in 2028,” he affirmed.
