‘I won’t concede elections…’ – Bryan Acheampong jabs Bawumia

The flagbearer hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has launched a scathing attack on former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for conceding the 2024 presidential race when parliamentary elections had not concluded.
Speaking on a campaign tour of the Eastern Region, he criticized his colleague Members of Parliament in the region for throwing their weight behind the former flagbearer of the party.
He said the party had to keep its focus on the bigger picture of capturing political power, and which candidate was best placed to achieve that objective.
“Recently, I’ve heard that some gentlemen here in the Eastern Region said they won’t support me, and that’s fine. But I know the people at the polling station and in the Eastern Region will support me, and I’m going to win this election,” the aspirant said emphatically.
He continued, “The people are focused on power. You may not like me because they have run propaganda against me, but think about it. I am one hell of a bold leader. I won’t sit down and concede elections when the counting of the parliamentary elections has not concluded. You won’t get me to do that.”
On Wednesday, fifteen out of the 23 NPP Members of Parliament in the Eastern Region threw their support behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he began his campaign tour of the region.
They include Sammi Awuku, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Annor Dompreh, Kofi Ahenekorah Marfo, Charles Asuako Owiredu, Kingsley Agyemang, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, Kwame Appiah Kodua, Duke Ofori-Atta, Michael Okyere Baafi, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, Kwame Addo Frempong, Alexander Agyare, and Laurette Korkor Asante.
He encouraged party supporters to remain focused on power “and nothing else,” rejecting any forms of unhelpful associations that will not bode well for the party in the long run.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong is one of the five flagbearer aspirants seeking to lead the opposition NPP in the 2028 general election.
The others are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Kennedy Agyapong, a former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe; Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Minister of Education; and Kwabena Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the party.
The NPP has scheduled the presidential primaries to take place in January 2026.
