Focus on governing, not intimidation- Okoe Boye to gov’t

Former Health Minister, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has advised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on delivering on their promises rather than unnecessary intimidation of citizens.
Dr. Okoe Boye, who participated in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth-led demonstration dubbed ‘Yensuro Ahunahuna’, warned that too much attention on arrests could distract the government from carrying out its mandate.
He listed a number of promises the NDC ran on that have yet to see the light of day after nearly nine months in office.
He mentioned that the government was yet to address youth unemployment and the age-old problem of illegal mining, a persistent menace to the country.
“He promised jobs for the youth. He promised women he would establish a bank for them. He promised the end of galamsey. What is happening today? Today, the youth are unemployed and are at home. These water bodies have been destroyed, and there is no women’s bank.
“If NDC is not careful, by 2028, they will have done very little,” he told journalists during the protest at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
He said former President Nana Akufo-Addo, during his tenure, had made it a priority for the government to ensure every child goes to school free of charge.
He observed that if the former president had focused on partisan politics, he would not have gotten much done during his eight-year period in Jubilee House.
The youth wing of the NPP announced a demonstration last week to protest the government’s handling of galamsey, political dismissals, and unfulfilled promises.
NPP National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, told journalists that the protest would highlight the government’s failures.
According to him, the administration’s record has been marked by deliberate victimization and targeted actions against its own citizens.
