NPP flag bearer race: They know I am ready – Kennedy Agyapong

An aspiring flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed confidence in his performance during his vetting for the party’s top job.
Speaking to reporters after the vetting at the party headquarters, Mr. Agyepong, who is contesting for the flag bearership position for the second time, said he was ready to field questions from the committee regarding his bid to lead the party and eventually be head of state.
“I was prepared. I believed I answered all the questions. They know I’m ready to be president of this country,” the flag bearer hopeful observed.
He said he had a great vetting, adding that the exercise was meaningful, “not really”, different from his first vetting two years ago.
Mr. Agyapong said the vetting committee posed reasonable questions and facilitated a session devoid of hostility toward him.
Asked if he brought up his much-touted ‘Asian model’ for Ghana’s development, he disclosed that he did.
He explained that the Asian model was a business plan initiated by the government that aimed at providing local businesses with the capital and resources they needed to scale up production.
He noted that he had identified business financing as a major hurdle that many businesses face very early in operation.
Mr. Agyapong is one of the five men contesting for the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidacy for the 2028 presidential election.
He has attempted to move away from his firebrand politics and towards a more conciliatory tone as he seeks to defeat former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu, who, by nearly all accounts, holds a comfortable lead.
The leadership wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally petitioned the presidency over what it describes as a “deliberate weaponization” of security agencies.
Speaking in front of the Jubilee House, where the ‘Yensuro Ahunahuna’ demonstration had ended, the party’s Youth Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, accused the government of intentionally harassing members of the opposition.
He observed that they had come to call attention to the concerns they had long harbored.
“We are here at the Jubilee House, the seat of government. The New Patriotic Party, through the national youth wing of the party, staged this mammoth against what we will describe as a deliberate weaponization of state institutions, specifically the security agencies, purposely to harass members of the opposition party,” Mr. Boakye said.
