Asiedu Nketia urges unity, peace to fast-track Yendi development

National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged unity and peace to fast-track development in Yendi during a visit to Gbewaa Palace.
During the visit, Johnson Asiedu Nketia recalled the tense build-up to the 2024 December 7 elections in Yendi, where internal divisions weakened party mobilisation efforts.
According to him, reconciliation became necessary at the time, leading to interventions involving party figures deployed to help restore calm and unity in the area.
He warned against division, stating: “If you divide yourself thinking that you alone will do what will serve your interests in the end, you can’t get what will serve your interests, and you can’t get what will serve the collective interest.”
So you lose on both sides but if you swallow your hat and add a little patience you reap the dividends of peace and unity.
As he assessed development challenges in Yendi, he noted that years of conflict had created a backlog, stressing urgency in catching up.
He emphasised urgency saying: “If ever 24 hours is relevant to any community in Ghana it is more so for Yendi because we have to catch up with our development.”
He noted the impact of instability on infrastructure stating: “Projects that were functioning have gone into ruins” and adding that new initiatives stalled due to conflict.
He appealed for sustained unity saying: “now that we have discovered the formula for development which is peace don’t let us ever try to go back”
He expressed optimism stating that “Yendi will get back to our winning ways and become a major economic and trading center” with unity and leadership support.
Residents and leaders were urged to maintain cooperation with government officials to sustain peace, improve infrastructure delivery, and strengthen economic activity across the municipality as part of broader national development efforts under the current administration and ensure long-term stability and growth for communities in the Northern Region of Ghana.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia also urged continued collaboration between traditional leaders, elected officials, and residents to ensure sustained peace and development gains in Yendi area.
