Akufo-Addo, Bawumia have displayed insensitivity to flood victims – Dr Apaak

The Member of Parliament of Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak stated that President Akufo-Addo, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has showed some level of insensitivity to flood victims in Volta region.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo could have called of his trip and visit the flood victims who have lost their livelihood in the country.
In a statement the Builsa South lawmaker questioned why the President and his Vice President have not acted on the incident that has rendered a number residents in the region homeless.
“Folks, has President Akufo-Addo and or his sidekick, Dr. Mahmudu Baumia visited to commiserate with innocent victims of the floods? Did I miss the news item?
“Communities are under water, thousands displaced, millions worth of property destroyed, and they think announcing a committee is enough?” Dr. Apaak asked.
He continued: “Is it not shocking that neither the President nor his vice have paid a visit to an affected community to sympathise with these citizens who have lost everything?”
According to him, “John Mahama, an opposition leader, has made time to visit, interact, and sympathise with victims. Yet President Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who are paid by citizens, are yet to. If NADAA had a sense of empathy, he should have cancelled his trip abroad and returned to Ghana immediately.
“Is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia telling the victims of the floods that his campaign to lead the NPP is more important? As the acting President, shouldn’t his duty in that capacity take priority over his campaign to lead the NPP? This is the highest display of insensitivity and must be condemned.”
President John Mahama’s visist
Former President John Mahama, who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 flag bearer, has issued a heartfelt plea to the Volta River Authority (VRA) to accelerate their efforts in aiding the distressed residents residing in the communities along the Volta River.
These communities have been severely impacted by the spillage from the Akosombo Dam, causing widespread flooding and forcing inhabitants of the North, South, and Central Tongu districts in the Volta Region to evacuate their homes.
These displaced residents are now grappling with the challenging task of safeguarding whatever possessions remain amidst the devastating floods.
On a recent Friday, Mr. Mahama undertook a visit to assess the extent of the damage caused by the spillage in various locations, including Sogakope and Sokpoe.
During his visit, he took the opportunity to engage with the affected communities and facilities, revealing the gravity of the situation.
At the Comboni Hospital, staff members were compelled to evacuate their quarters and seek refuge under a makeshift pavilion.
This dire situation has also necessitated the discharge of several patients, with only ten individuals remaining in critical condition.
Should the water levels fail to recede promptly, even these critically ill patients may find themselves in the unfortunate position of being discharged from the hospital.
The urgent call by Mr. Mahama underscores the pressing need for immediate and effective action to mitigate the suffering of those affected by this calamitous event.
