Ejura: Suspected robber shot dead in police intelligence operation

A suspected armed robber has been shot dead during a police intelligence-led operation in Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
The operation, carried out on March 18, 2026, forms part of a targeted crackdown on a robbery syndicate believed to be behind a string of attacks on residents and highway commuters in the municipality.
Police sources say the group has been on the radar of the Police Intelligence Directorate for some time, following repeated reports of violent robberies along major routes in the area.
During the operation, one of the suspects, identified as Amadu, popularly known as “Manu,” sustained gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have linked the deceased to a recent robbery incident on March 14, 2026, along the Atebubu–Ejura highway, where armed men reportedly attacked a moving vehicle and injured a passenger after opening fire.
The incident sparked fear among road users and intensified calls for increased security presence along the stretch.
Police say the latest operation was based on credible intelligence and was carefully executed to disrupt the activities of the gang and prevent further attacks.
A search conducted after the operation led to the retrieval of a single-barreled gun, five live cartridges, a Tecno Pop 10 mobile phone, and a cash sum of GH¢200.
Authorities believe the items are connected to the suspect’s alleged involvement in criminal activities.
Meanwhile, security agencies have launched a manhunt for other members of the gang who managed to escape during the operation. The Police Intelligence Directorate says it is pursuing leads to ensure their arrest.
Residents in Ejura have, in recent times, expressed growing concern over robbery incidents, particularly on highways linking nearby communities.
The police have therefore assured the public that efforts are being intensified to address the situation and restore a sense of safety.
They are also calling on the public to volunteer information that could assist in tracking down the remaining suspects, stressing that all tips will be handled confidentially.
Authorities maintain that operations will continue until the network is completely dismantled and those responsible are brought to justice.
