KT Hammond slams NPP aspirants over wealth boasting

The former Trade Minister says bragging about money does not qualify anyone to lead the party.
Former Minister of Trade and Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, has taken a swipe at New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants who flaunt their wealth and exaggerate their financial contributions to the party.
Speaking to party supporters on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Adansi Asokwa, during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s tour of the Ashanti Region, KT Hammond described such aspirants as “latter-day braggarts.” He questioned where they were in the 1990s when sacrifices were needed to build the NPP into a formidable political force.
“When we wanted money to build the party, where were all these people who are now bragging and insulting all of us with their money?” KT Hammond asked.
The outspoken former MP emphasized that most party members struggling financially sympathize with and support Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections.
If they want to turn this party into the rich versus the poor, then we want to tell them that we, the poor, who are in the majority, are for Dr. Bawumia,” he declared.
KT Hammond recalled that prior to the 2000 general elections, the NPP was nearly bankrupt, and it took the dedication and resources of committed members to keep the party afloat. He argued that those now boasting of wealth made fortunes after the party came into power but were absent during its difficult formative years.
“Many of our stalwarts dedicated themselves and committed their resources to make the NPP formidable and victorious, which enabled us to form a government. Where were all these braggarts?” he questioned.
According to him, genuine party stalwarts who sacrificed do not go around boasting. Instead, he accused the so-called wealthy aspirants of using their financial status to disrespect loyal but less wealthy members.
“Yes, we accept we are poor, but those of us who are not rich will support Dr. Bawumia, because he has what it takes to lead this party to victory,” KT Hammond concluded.
