Nana B alleges NDC politicizing helicopter crash
The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of politicizing the recent military helicopter crash.
The crash claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
In a Facebook statement cited by Tdau.com.gh, Nana B said the nation should be focusing on unity, healing, and giving the fallen heroes a dignified farewell. Instead, he alleged, the government appears determined to “drag the tragedy into political controversy.”
He cited the arrest of Wontumi TV presenter Akyemkwa Nana Kofi Asare in Ejisu Krapa, which he described as a “Rambo-style” operation by unidentified armed men, and the separate arrest of social media personality Fante Comedy over a viral TikTok video. According to him, these actions, coming at a sensitive time of national mourning, send “a chilling signal that politics is being placed above compassion and national solidarity.”
“This is not the time to inflame tensions. It is the time to bind wounds,” Nana B said, questioning whether the NDC government intends to let the victims rest in peace or keep the tragedy alive in the realm of partisan politics. He warned that such developments could divert attention from honouring the dead to political disputes, describing the situation as both insensitive and divisive.
Nana B further alleged that the current climate under the Mahama-led administration reflects “a dangerous slide toward fear-driven governance” and raises questions about safety, freedom of expression, and the rule of law. He urged the government to show restraint, empathy, and a commitment to protecting democratic freedoms.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with alleged illegal possession of weapons, death threats, and the circulation of false information. Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, said popular social media personality Daniel Adomako, known as “Sir Obama Pokuase,” was picked up in an intelligence-led operation after images and videos surfaced of individuals brandishing sophisticated weapons. He is assisting investigators in determining the source and legality of the firearms.
The police also confirmed the arrests of Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiw over alleged death threats and the spread of false information following the August 6 crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
