NDC’s campus rebranding a wake-up call for NPP — Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against “sleeping” while the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) continues to sharpen its appeal among young people.
Speaking at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) Political Lab event on Saturday, the Effutu MP recalled how difficult it once was for students to openly identify with the NDC.
“Back in the day, if you wanted to contest for leadership on campus and anybody there said you were NDC, you would lose. No student wanted to hear NDC. So, the NDC boys were hiding to do their meetings.”
He contrasted that past with the present, crediting the NDC with strategic rebranding.
“Our friends in the NDC decided not to give up. They went into rebranding of their party. They branded their party to make it attractive to students.”
Leader Afenyo-Markin admitted that student politics now reflects a shift in attitudes, with the NDC gaining visibility and confidence.
“Today, students are able to proudly say, I’m NDC because of the branding. So, the NPP people listen well and stop sleeping.”
The Minority Leader stressed that while his observations may be misconstrued, the NPP cannot ignore the reality that the NDC’s persistence has made it “even more popular than TESCON” on some campuses.
Political Marketing students at UniMAC have used their political event to invite key politicians from both sides of the divide to share their thoughts on how to make political brands attractive.
Other guests include Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communication team member, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah of the NPP, Pollster Musa Dankwah, and others. Some lecturers at the university were also in attendance.
Meanwhile, the former Minister of Trade and Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, has taken a swipe at New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants who flaunt their wealth and exaggerate their financial contributions to the party.
Speaking to party supporters on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Adansi Asokwa, during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s tour of the Ashanti Region, KT Hammond described such aspirants as “latter-day braggarts.” He questioned where they were in the 1990s when sacrifices were needed to build the NPP into a formidable political force.
“When we wanted money to build the party, where were all these people who are now bragging and insulting all of us with their money?” KT Hammond asked.
