We hold no hostility toward President Mahama – Salam Mustapha to NDC
The National Youth Organizer for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has said that the party does not hold any personal ill will toward President John Dramani Mahama.
He stressed that disagreements with the President are political.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, which was closely monitored by Today.com.gh, Mustapha insisted that the NPP opposes the policies and political approaches of the President, not the individual himself.
“Let nobody in the NDC think that we in the NPP are against the President. We are not against the President as a person. We only disagree with his politics,” Mustapha emphasised, underlining the distinction between personal respect and political opposition.
His remarks follow the recent arrests of two social media activists associated with the NPP, Prince Ofori, popularly known as Fante Comedy, and Daniel Adomako, known as Sir Obama Pokuase. Fante Comedy was reportedly detained after making contentious comments during a TikTok live session, while Sir Obama was arrested as part of ongoing investigations concerning the illegal possession and display of sophisticated weapons.
Addressing Sir Obama’s arrest, Mustapha questioned the rationale behind targeting citizens for exercising their civil rights. “Sir Obama was drawing the attention of the National Security to something very salient. If a citizen decides to act within his civil rights, why should he be arrested? Are we looking at the depth of submission, or are we looking at his political colourisation?” he asked.
The NPP Youth Organiser also criticised what he described as a growing misconception that the party harbours hostility toward the President. He noted that repeated arrests of party members on such assumptions are unfounded and reflect a misunderstanding of the NPP’s stance. According to Mustapha, no member of the party personally wishes harm to President Mahama, but the party will continue to challenge policies it considers ineffective or misaligned with its vision for Ghana.
He further urged political actors to differentiate between legitimate policy critique and personal animosity, emphasising that constructive political engagement is essential for the country’s democratic process. The NPP, Mustapha added, remains committed to holding the government accountable while respecting the office of the President.
