2025 WASSCE Commences: ‘Integrity of our examinations is non-negotiable’ – Dr. Apaak

As the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) officially begins today across Ghana, the Ministry of Education has issued a decisive warning to school authorities and staff to maintain integrity or face dire consequences.
In a press release signed by Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, stating that anyone—be it teaching or non-teaching staff—caught aiding or abetting cheating will be punished severely.
“Staff members found guilty will face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal and possible jail term,” Dr. Apaak warned. “The integrity of our examinations is non-negotiable, and all teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability.”
“The Ministry is working hand-in-hand with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and the national security agencies to ensure this year’s examination process is not compromised. Surveillance and monitoring mechanisms have been significantly intensified.
“You have been employed to nurture, guide, and support students in their academic journey, not to compromise their future,” Dr. Apaak stated.
Personnel are being urged to report any suspicious activities before, during, or after the exams, reinforcing that the responsibility of safeguarding the examination’s fairness is collective.
The Ministry concluded by urging students to stay focused, confident, and ethical.
“You have been prepared well. Believe in yourselves, and go into the examination room knowing that your best effort is enough.”
