‘Kennedy Agyapong didn’t fund me; I funded him’ – Kwame A Plus

Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, has dismissed claims that Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, financed his campaign ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He described the allegations as false, malicious, and deliberately crafted to tarnish his reputation within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in an interview, the outspoken MP insisted that he never received financial support from Kennedy Agyapong. Rather, he said he was one of the people who contributed to Mr. Agyapong’s presidential campaign during the NPP’s internal primaries.
“Kennedy Agyapong didn’t fund me; I funded him,” A Plus said. “I mobilized a lot of money to support his campaign because I respected him for his honesty and courage. But people are twisting the story to make it look like I owe my political success to him. That is completely untrue.”
He explained that his victory in the Gomoa Central constituency came through hard work, personal sacrifice, and the trust of his constituents. “I went to every community, spoke to the people myself, and used my own resources. I did not sit and wait for Kennedy Agyapong or anyone else to give me money,” he said.
A Plus said he was disappointed that some party members were spreading the rumour to sow division at a time when the NPP should be focused on rebuilding and unity. “It’s unfortunate that people in the same party prefer to destroy others instead of working together. Some just can’t stand seeing others rise through hard work,” he noted.
He added that his support for Kennedy Agyapong was driven purely by conviction, not personal gain. “I helped Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign because I believed in his vision, not because I was expecting money or favours,” he said.
The Gomoa Central MP concluded by assuring his constituents that he remains committed to serving with integrity and transparency, regardless of political rumours.
