Dampare is professional and levelheaded – Sam Okudzeto

Senior lawyer and former Council of State member, Sam Okudzeto, has jumped to the defense of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, amid growing tensions within the Police Service.
According to Okudzeto, Dampare is a levelheaded and professional leader committed to doing the right thing.
The defense comes in response to internal grievances within the Police Service, with some officers accusing Dampare of unfairly denying promotions. A Kumasi High Court recently dismissed a case filed by 40 officers who alleged they were wrongfully denied career advancements. Additionally, some personnel have accused the IGP of restricting regional and district commanders from engaging with the media on matters within their jurisdiction.
Significantly, Okudzeto’s defense highlights the need for stability in leadership positions, particularly in institutions like the Police Service. His comments suggest that calls for Dampare’s removal are unfounded and may be driven by personal interests rather than a genuine concern for the well-being of the service.
“I don’t even understand what they are driving at. I have watched this country since independence, and if there has been any person who is levelheaded and strict about doing the right thing, it is the current IGP, Dr. Dampare,”_ Okudzeto emphasized in an interview on 3FM’s AGENDA.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has been the Inspector General of Police (IGP) since August 2021. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Director-General of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS). Despite the criticism, Dampare has received support from various quarters, with many commending his efforts to maintain discipline, professionalism, and integrity within the Ghana Police Service.
