Greater Accra NDC youth wing dares Owusu Bempah
The Greater Accra Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed its scheduled clean up event at the Office of Former President John Mahama.
In a statement signed by Deputy Regional Youth Organizer, Hammond Gideon indicated that this decision comes following the abrupt withdrawal of Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, a known provocateur, from his ill-conceived plan to picket at the office of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. Owusu-Bempah’s attempt to reschedule his demonstration served as the catalyst for our decision to delay our planned cleanup initiative at the same location.
The NDC Youth Wing said their initial commitment to conduct a cleanup operation at the office of the 2024 flag bearer of our party was in direct response to Owusu-Bempah’s nonsensical announcement of his intention to picket at Mr. Mahama’s office on Thursday, October 12, 2024. From the outset, it was evident to us that Owusu-Bempah was merely seeking unwarranted attention for himself, using his usual tactics of sensationalism.
The NDC Youth Wing said while they remain convinced that Owusu-Bempah may never announce a new date for his planned picketing event, we want to emphasize our readiness to convene at John Mahama’s office should his misguided aspirations lead him to reschedule. On that day, we will be prepared to assist in “weeding out” any unwelcome materials or elements.
The Youth Wing stated that they kindly implore the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to take note of the situation.
According to them, If indeed he had a hand in advising Owusu-Bempah to reconsider his demonstration, we request his approval for any potential new date, should Owusu-Bempah muster the courage to contemplate such an endeavor once more.
The Youth Wing also indicated that they acknowledge the enthusiastic response from the youth and the general public regarding the announcement of a cleanup exercise at Mr. Mahama’s office. We understand the anticipation and excitement that this event generated. We encourage everyone who had prepared for this planned cleanup to retain their supplies and enthusiasm for another occasion.
In conclusion, the Greater Accra Youth Wing of the NDC remains committed to our party’s principles and objectives. We believe in peaceful and constructive means of engagement, and we will always act in the best interests of our members and the nation as a whole. Our decision to postpone the event is a reflection of our dedication to these principles, and we hope for continued support and understanding from our members and the public at large.
In an earlier statement the leadership of the regional youth wing has read with much disdain, reports of which one Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah, a self-styled convenor of an amorphous group, Fixing the Country Movement, has issued a 14 day ultimatum to picket infront of the office of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
“We would have no issue if Owusu Bempah and his idling hirelings in the NPP want to express their revulsion against their own failed Akufo Addo/Bawumia government for its inability to stamp out corruption. We are however, aversed to attempts by the so-called group to draw His Excellency John Dramani Mahama into the misgovernance of the present administration.”
The indicated that the group, if indeed it exist, and its leader, may have a right to demonstrate, but that right must not be exercised in a reckless, illogical and smoke-induced manner.
The Youth Wing stated that “this statement goes as a warning or whatever they may want to call it, to Owusu Bempah and whoever he may be planning this with, that they should not dare come closer to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s office. If he and his lapdogs are men, they should make any silly attempt around that office.”
