I haven’t seen this in a long time – Asamoah Gyan reacts to Ghana’s 5-0 thrashing of CAR
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed delight over Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 victory against the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The match, played in Morocco on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, saw the Black Stars produce one of their most dominant performances in recent years, taking them to the top of Group I.
Gyan, speaking to 3Sports after the game, said the display reminded him of the team’s glory days and praised the players for their improved second-half performance. He credited the technical team for making key tactical adjustments that unleashed the side’s attacking strength after a slow start.
“I haven’t seen this in a long time. First, I want to thank Ghanaians for their massive support. In the first half, we struggled a bit physically and had to make adjustments, and you saw how offensive and sharp we were in the second half. They’ve shown they can score goals — we scored three against Madagascar and now five today,” he said.
The Black Stars’ goals came from Mohammed Salisu, Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew, and Kamal Deen Sulemana, who all found the net in a commanding performance that left their opponents with no chance. The victory puts Ghana on 22 points, three ahead of Madagascar, with Mali and Comoros trailing in third and fourth positions, respectively.
Gyan, who remains Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, described the team’s resurgence as encouraging but cautioned against early celebrations. He urged Ghanaians to remain focused and turn up in large numbers at the Accra Sports Stadium for the final Group I fixture against Comoros on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
“But it’s not time to celebrate yet. We must finish the job in Accra, and I’m calling on all fans to come in their numbers to support the team,” he added.
A win or draw in that encounter will be enough to secure Ghana a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Black Stars’ impressive performance has reignited national optimism, with many football fans confident that the team is finally on course to reclaim its place among the world’s elite.
