Mahama swears in 11 new envoys, includes Kwesi Ahwoi, Kojo Choi

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in 11 new Ghanaian envoys to serve as Ambassadors and High Commissioners across the globe.
The ceremony, held in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, followed the granting of agrément (official approval) by the respective host countries in September 2025.
The appointees, all non-career diplomats, were presented with presidential instruments of commission, formally empowering them to assume their roles. They have been tasked to represent Ghana’s interests abroad and to advance the country’s foreign policy agenda.
Among those commissioned were Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi as Ambassador to Serbia, Mr. Kojo Choi as Ambassador to South Korea, and Captain (Rtd.) George Kofi Nfojoh as High Commissioner to Togo. Others include Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh (Canada), Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah (Namibia), Dr. Kwame Ampofo (Hungary), Mr. Benjamin Anani Quashie (South Africa), Mr. Magnus Kofi Amoatey (Congo), Mr. Benedict Batabe Assorow (Holy See/Vatican), Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah (Switzerland), and Mr. Mohammed Abubakari Manaf (Benin).
The new envoys are expected to promote Ghana’s political, economic, and cultural interests in their host countries while strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation for mutual development under President Mahama’s leadership.
Ambassador Choi, has admitted that his business activities over the years have provided substantial “indirect support” to both major political parties in the country.
In an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse today, on August 14, monitored by Today.com.gh, Ambassador Choi reflected on his time as a business owner prior to entering public service, offering insights into how entrepreneurs often intersect with politics.
The Ambassador pointed to the 2000 general election as a defining moment for his printing business. During that period, his company reportedly handled significant printing contracts for both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The biggest business I had since I started in 1999 was the year 2000,” he said, recalling the election between John Agyekum Kufuor and the late John Evans Atta Mills.
He detailed the extensive volume of campaign materials produced, including thousands of candidate portraits and promotional prints for party supporters.
“I printed thousands of their faces. You know that was one business that I started in Ghana,” he added.
