Mahama to formalize fund for aging artists/artiste

John Dramani Mahama
Winston Churchill once said that a nation that fails to honour its heroes, soon will have no heroes to honour. I agree with him, and would like to add that a nation that forgets its heroes is not worth dying for.
Honouring heroes is essential for a nation to show gratitude and respect for those who have sacrificed their lives for the greater good. Without this recognition, the sacrifices made by these individuals may be forgotten or overlooked, leading to a lack of appreciation for their contributions.
By honouring heroes, a nation can inspire future generations to uphold the values and ideals that these individuals fought for, creating a sense of unity and pride in their country. Ultimately, honouring heroes is a way to preserve the memory of their bravery and selflessness, ensuring that their legacy lives on for generations to come.
In line with this, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has announced plans to formalise a fund to support aging artistes/artists in the country when voted for as president in the upcoming polls. The fund will provide financial assistance to veteran artists/artistes who may be struggling financially in their old age.
President Mahama made the announcement during a meeting with a group of artists and musicians in Accra. He expressed his commitment to supporting the arts and culture sector in Ghana, and recognised the contributions of veteran artistes/artists to the country’s cultural heritage.
The fund will be established in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and will be managed by a board of trustees made up of representatives from the arts community. Mahama also pledged to work with stakeholders in the industry to ensure that the fund is sustainable.
This initiative has been welcomed by the arts community in Ghana, who have long advocated for better support and recognition for veteran artistes/artists. The fund is expected to provide much-needed financial assistance to these aging veterans, helping them to live more comfortably in their later years and continue to contribute to the cultural life of the country.
